Drivers misinterpreted the southbound track of Carrera 1 as being the second lane continuing of the northbound track, with the potential of a serious high-speed head-on collision.

The danger was simply and easily addressed by reinstating the white and yellow road markings/hatching, installing one set of ‘No Entry’ signs to prevent drivers travelling the wrong way on Carrera 1, introducing block treatment (studs) on the white hatching to prevent drivers straddling the carriageway and introducing high-profile yellow and black arrow vertical sign at the ‘nosing’ of the merge/taper.
