Overview

Las Vegas Boulevard is a major multi-lane thoroughfare and the signal controlled pedestrian crosswalk immediately outside Harrah’s only had a right-hand pavement-sited signal at the stop line which was repeatedly obscured by high-sided vehicles. Approaching drivers therefore in the middle and left-hand lanes did not appreciate the point at which to stop on a red signal and would drive straight through the crosswalk, without conceding priority, at the same time as pedestrians received a ‘green-man’ signal. The danger was simply and immediately addressed by installing a signal sited on the central median, at the left-hand end of the stop line, making clear to drivers in the left-hand lanes, the point at which they need to stop.
