The creation of a roundabout with raised pedestrian crossings on each of the approaches on the Yerevan to Artashat Highway at its intersection with Arin Berd Street.
Aside from addressing this specific accident black spot, this initiative was the first of its kind in Yerevan where 30 kph speed limit signs were employed in zones approaching the pedestrian crossings and on the roundabout itself. To further slow traffic on the approach to the crossings at the above roundabout, 4 x 6cm rubber yellow and black speed humps have been installed in front of each of the pedestrian crossings. The objective is to improve safety for pedestrians crossing at this intersection and to remove confusing traffic flows and slow vehicle speeds.
The project serves as a pilot of ‘best practice’ and it is hoped the reference point in Yerevan will allow these low-speed zones to be routinely used at other comparable locations in Armenia. T
