Pedestrians felt unsafe using the underpass so would cross an extremely busy highway above, with the result that serious injuries and fatalities were occurring. To improve pedestrian safety, the Foundation, collaborating with Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST), renovated the underpass with simple remedial measures, such as improved lighting, flooring, walls & ceiling, access, and the installation of pedestrian signage and CCTV cameras.
